Scooters – Update from Oxford County Council

Oxford County Council have issued an update on the e-Scooter and e-Bike hire schemes.

Many residents have strong feelings about Voi scooters and Lime bikes. The following is a summary of the current thinking and action at the County Council. Please feel free to comment about e-scooters via the Council’s dedicated email address

An audit is currently underway regarding the Voi scooters which will look at adjustments required, repairing and positioning. Comments are still welcome. Results are expected in the new year and changes are anticipated.

The Council is looking at all micro-mobility modes of transport. Only the orange scooters and e-bikes are legal on the roads.

Sites for e-scooters have to be authorised by the Council. . The Council has taken on board that the scooter pens have not been favourably received. The Council recognises also that there are calls for there to be more small e-scooter sites rather than fewer large ones to make it easier to find somewhere to park.

The Council cannot refuse any new e-bike hire schemes (e.g. Lime bikes) that want to set up in Oxford, but overall numbers are limited.

Any problems with Voi or Lime should be referred as follows:
