The aim of the School Streets programme is to create a safe, welcoming and attractive environment where children, parents and teachers can walk, cycle or scoot, or park away from and walk to school with less risk of concentrated air pollution and traffic congestion. As part of this, timed road closures will be introduced to prohibit access for motor vehicles at school drop-off and/or pick-up times.
A trial of School Streets will start at Windmill School on Monday 22 March for an initial 6 week trial period. As part of this, temporary supervised barriers will be in place at the following locations at 0830 – 0900 and 1500 – 1530:
There are trials underway at other schools in Oxford. More details can be found online.

Would you like to support Street Champions in Headington?
Headington Action has secured funding for a part-time role
Street champions set up by Oxford Together have been highly effective in supporting and empowering street communities. If someone has been shielding during the pandemic it’s probably a local street champion who has arranged for someone to do their shopping. In Headington, the charity Headington Action (HA) is keen to develop and maintain the street champion network working alongside Oxford Together and we have secured some funding to employ someone part-time on a contract basis to do this.
The job will entail supporting existing street champions and to recruit more people to fulfil this really important role. This would be for an average of one day a week though not necessarily all in one day. You would be liaising with Street Champions and Oxford Together. It will also entail working within one of HA’s project teams, called Connected Communities, which was formed to reduce social isolation and increase community support in Headington.
The job isn’t just for the duration of the pandemic, HA want to make Headington one of the most friendly and supportive places anyone might choose to live.
If you are interested please contact Headington Action for discussion and the full job description.
The Job Description is on the Headington Action Website

Thankyou to all of you that have contacted us about the proposed 5G mast at the corner of Margaret Road and Quarry High Street and responded to our petition.
We have raised your concerns with the City Council. They have told us that they have strongly recommended that the mast be placed elsewhere and are working to identify a suitable alternative location. They have also confirmed that, should an application be submitted, the public will have a chance to comment.
We will continue to monitor the development of this proposal and will make you aware of any future formal application.

Hutchison are preparing to submit a planning application for a 20 metre-high monopole mast for 5G and 4 equipment cabinets and development works ancillary thereto on the corner of Margaret Road and Quarry High Street.
Friends of Quarry are concerned about the visual impact of the mast on a key entrance to the Quarry. We are exploring what opportunities there are for Friends of Quarry and Residents to oppose the current positioning.
If you agree the the current position is not suitable, please sign our petition. If you have any comments and, in particular, if you have a proposal for an alternative location a short distance from this one, please use the comments box for that.
Many Thanks,
Friends of Quarry

We’d like to remind you that the Headington Quarry Controlled Parking Zone comes into effect on Monday 15 February 2021. After that time, any vehicle parked on the road between 0900 and 1700, Monday to Friday (apart from in designated 2-hour limited bays outside Holy Trinity Church) will be at risk of receiving parking tickets.
Each house affected should have received a letter with more information in mid-January. The process is also explained on the County Council Parking Website. Permits, including visitor permits, can also be applied for on that site.
The CPZ will also be accompanied by new double yellow lines and signage. We expect those to be put in place before 15 February.
